We woke up at 6am and met in Holbrook at 6:30 am. We had a great breakfast. After breakfast we got into the bus and headed to the airport. We passed security, got Shake Shack and boarded the plane. After landing we got our luggage and gave in our phones. We all met up with Luke and headed to the Big Yellow House (BYH).  After a hour of driving we arrived at the BYH, we unpacked and the whole group headed over to the volleyball court. We played volleyball and Newcomb. That was the end of day 1.

On Day 2 we toured San Juan with our tour guide, Alvin. We saw so many historic sites and ate popsicles. When the tour was over, we went to the beach where Mr. Meltzer found a conch shell. After we got back and ate dinner we relaxed and listened to Victor play his guitar. That was the end of day 2.

We started our service work at Villa Del Rio. We laid down the platform, shoveled, and used rebar to reinforce concrete. For lunch we ate a home cooked meal made by Maria. After lunch, we went back to work until 3pm. Then, we headed to a new beach and relaxed. After the beach, we got back to the Big Yellow House and ate dinner. That was the end of day 3. We still have a lot of adventure ahead!

Today in Puerto Rico we woke up for the second day working. At 8:45 AM we took a 15 minute drive to the site to meet with Angel and William. We were greeted by two beautiful dogs and began our days work. Today’s work consisted of making rebar grids to reinforce the concrete. After a few hours of working we went to Maria and Angel’s house to eat another amazing meal. We spent most of lunch break dancing with William and returned to the worksite. After a hard but inspiring days work, we went to get rolled ice cream.

Today we started working with cement. When we got to the worksite William and Angel went over the safety procedures. After the cement was mixed we got into a line and we passed the buckets of cement to each other. So far this has been the hardest work day but also the most rewarding. We all went to the beach after and had burgers and fries! Dinner was delicious!

Today was our last day in the community. We woke up to breakfast at the Big Yellow House then got in the van to head to the worksite. We mixed many batches of cement and then had our farewell lunch at Maria’s house. Saying goodbye was very sad. We went to a new beach, poza los mujeres, and enjoyed some sun and warm water.

Our last full day. We went to the rainforest ‘El Yunque’ for a hike and a swim in a beautiful river. Then we ate lunch and checked into Casa Coral, a hostel built by William from the community! It is beautiful! We had an activity on the beach and enjoyed the sun. Then we had a beach side dinner then went to the Bio Bay for kayaking in bioluminescence. Now we’re headed to bed because tomorrow we have an early flight home!
