Brother Rice Costa Rica 2025

February 16, 2025
After a long day of traveling, we got some rest and woke up for an extravagant white water rafting trip. We all woke up and jumped straight onto the bus. During the long bus ride we saw incredible views that words can’t speak for itself. Some of us even took a nap on the bus. Next thing you know we picked up a guy on the side of the road named Roberto. Roberto hopped on the bus and went straight to take a picture of me(cam) sleeping. This was very random and unexpected but we then found out he was one of our rafting guides. Then he hopped off the bus to go to his own car. We arrive to the rafting site and quickly ate breakfast, then went straight to rafting. We each had a tour guide that cracked hilarious jokes talking about dinosaurs, anacondas, TICAS, and much more. The rafting was scary at first, but we all got the hang of it and really enjoyed it. INSANE 🍍 in costa!!! After the white water rafting we had a quick lunch of their infamous rice and beans, then headed on back to the hotel. After that we had a bit of time to ourselves to reflect on this adventurous day, then had dinner. Now we are looking forward to sleeping and day 2!

We started with an early morning drive to the clinic where our amigo Dayan was waiting. We started with a quick talk about what the clinic does and then loaded up the car and walked to the local daycare/clinic. We divided our group into 4 smaller groups. 1 group shadowed the physician, 1 helped organize and run the pharmacy, 1 checked in patients, and the other treated kids with lice. This group washed and combed the lice out of the kids hair. Some people who shadowed were able to give shots to the patients. We then went back to where we met Dayan and they made us a delicious home cooked meal. We then made a plan for tomorrow in groups and headed back to the hotel. We had some downtime before having dinner and then our Latin dance class teacher, Gabriela, came and taught us some cool traditional dances. We are now packing our bags because we are moving tomorrow.

Today we were supposed to continue our work at the clinic, but unfortunately we had a change of plans due to a city wide taxi strike in San Jose. We enjoyed an extra hour of rest and relaxation due to this change of plans, but not long after we were on a bus on our way northward to the great La Fortuna. During our long bus ride we got to stop at La Fortuna Waterfall, and not only enjoyed scenic views but also roaring waters. After wrapping this activity up we were given time to take care of the business aspect of this trip (shopping). We finally arrived at our humble abode and were able to relax in the hot springs and rest up before dinner. To wrap up our day we were delighted to feast upon a decadent meal at Rana Roja. That marks the end of Day

Today we ate a delicious breakfast at our new hotel and then proceeded to go zip lining. The majority of us recorded our zip lining experiences on GoPros to capture the moment! Afterwords, we ate a delicious nacho lunch and then visited Costa Rica’s finest cheese farm. This included a presentation on the history of the company, a demonstration on how the cheese is made, a taste test, and a tour of the rest of the farm. After a little downtime, we went out for dinner. Lastly, we finished with watching and experiencing Costa Rican folkloric dancing. Excited for the last day tomorrow!

A Sweet Farewell to Costa Rica
Our last day in Costa Rica was nothing short of amazing. We started with a drive to a chocolate factory, where we learned how to make chocolate from scratch—roasting, grinding, and tasting every step of the process. The rich flavors made the experience unforgettable.
Next, we took a walk through a farm, admiring vibrant fruit plants and soaking in the natural beauty around us. Afterward, we headed to a local restaurant for a delicious lunch and picked up some souvenirs to remember our trip.
Though we’re sad to leave, we’re grateful for the experiences, the friendships, and the memories we’ve made. Costa Rica, you’ll always have a special place in our hearts—pura vida!
