Panama, the southernmost country in Central America, forms a bridge between two continents and is touted as one of the earth’s best eco-tourism destinations. With solid infrastructure and amazing biodiversity, Panama beckons us to experience unique service and adventure. Panama is a strikingly beautiful country whose natural beauty is rivaled by its diverse cultures and complex history. Global Works' programs start in cosmopolitan Panama City with access to Panama’s most known attraction, its canal. The canal was returned to Panama in 1999 and the country has been witness to its associated economic benefits. However, financial gain has not been shared in many parts of its rural interior where 65% of the population continues to live in impoverished conditions. Therefore, Global Works has partnered with community based groups and we work in both indigenous and Latino communities on carefully selected projects targeting public health, education, environmental conservation, and youth and community development. In addition to meaningful service work, our Panama volunteer trips are designed to facilitate conversational Spanish acquisition, cross-cultural exchange, and responsible adventure travel.
