Itinerary
Your flight arrives in Fiji after crossing the international date line and your Global Works leader will be at the airport to greet you! We hop over the stunning Yasawa Islands for lunch and market exploration. We continue on to our small eco-resort to relax and unwind from our travels, swim, and get to know our friendly Fijian hosts. After an evening Lovo (traditionally cooked earth oven meal), we meet around a bonfire overlooking the Pacific to learn about native Fijian history and customs to prepare for our upcoming village stay.
A traditional “sevu sevu” welcome ceremony inducts our group into our new families for the duration of our stay in the community. During our time here, we stay with families in small groups and eat in a communal setting. Our village family spoils us with inspired banquets of fruits, breads, and native dishes. The villages we work with have mapped out the need for health, education, and community facilities. We work alongside our hosts on these community development projects. Our service work includes meaningful grassroots projects where we work side-by-side with the village families who directly benefit from our efforts. We live and work at the relaxed pace of ‘Fiji time.’ Our days include projects, adventure activities, and introductions to traditional, local customs, crafts, and games. Fiji is paradise in the Pacific, complete with volcanic mountains, coral reefs, waterfalls, hiking trails, and single-lane dirt roads that transport us back to a simpler time.
We explore the reefs and view dazzling colored fish. We have the option to SCUBA dive off of the coast. Other activities include snorkeling, sea kayaking, fishing for dinner, natural rock water-slides, and hiking to gorgeous waterfalls.
Finally, we depart for home full of new experiences and inspiration. Your time in Fiji will forever be an example of communal village interactions, a way of life that may soon be lost in time.
