New Canaan Country School Costa Rica 2018

We arrived at school at 12 30 and drove to Newark airport. Unfortunately, our flight was delayed for an hour, so we were able to get dinner. We were pleasantly surprised by the heat of the plane and then waited to be taxied to the runway. When we landed in Costa Rica, we got our bags and headed to customs. We were bombarded with questions in Spanish and I had no idea what they were saying. Finally, we met our tour guide Randall, hopped on a bus and drove to the Costa Verde Inn where we stayed our first night.

After a long night of traveling, we woke up at 7am and we ate breakfast at Costa Verde. We later took a three-hour bus ride to a cheese factory. We saw the process, by which cheese was made, and also got to taste it. After a great lunch, consisting of chicken, potatoes, yuka, and vegatables, we took a short busride to our hotel. From 2-6, we had free time, and everyone was able to relax. After free time, we headed to dinner and everyone had a great time.

June 20, 2018

This morning, we saw the Festival of Arts at La Lucha School. We saw kids dancing, singing, and reciting poetry. One of our favorites was Naomi, whom we met yesterday at the cheese factory and who performed in a few dance routines today. After the festival, we started painting classrooms as well as outdoor poles. We did this for a few hours, then took a lunch break and ate some yummy chicken and rice, beans, and assorted vegetables. We also drank refreshing pineapple juice. After lunch, we relaxed for a bit, before finishing our work and heading back to the hotel. There, we all went into the pool for a little bit, but then it started thunderstorming, so we all went back to our bungalows and hung out before our dance lessons with Randall. It was soo fun. We learned salsa, merengue, and bachata. Now we are about to eat dinner. Yum yum¡ Adios¡

This morning we woke up at 7:30 instead of 6:30, so we got to sleep in. We had pancakes for breakfast and then took a bus back to the school we were working at yesterday. At the school we painted the fences around it and the benches. After working working for four hours, we ate pasta, beans, and rice for lunch. Then we drove to town to hang out and buy souvenirs. Only the way we got to see Arenal, which is an active volcano here in Costa Rica. We had free time in town for three hours and had a lot of fun shopping and experiencing Costa Rican culture. After shopping, we came back to the hotel to swim and chill out before dinner. Now we are about to eat dinner, cant wait. Hasta mañana.

June 23, 2018
Today, we went to the beach from 9am to 1pm. We learned how to surf and caught some waves. It was so much fun and even though the waves weren’t enormous, everyone had a great time and the instructors were amazing. After surfing, we had a delicious lunch in a small town. After lunch, we took a quick walk to a local soccer game where we saw really great players. It was also a lot of fun. After we walked back, we took a walk to the famous whale tale. The day overall was amazing and everyone had a great time.
