En nuestro primer día, salimos del aeropuerto y nos fuimos directamente al Viejo San Juan. Alvin, nuestro guía, nos acompañó a un restaurante puertorriqueño donde comimos varias comidas como tostones, arroz y frijoles, etc. Nos enseno de la historia de cómo se fundó Puerto Rico y luego andabamos por las calles. Seguimos al tour de El Morro, donde aprendimos sobre las batallas que ocurrieron con los ingleses en el siglo XVI. Luego, fuimos de compras de recuerdos y regresamos a los carros donde conducíamos a The Big Yellow House. Finalmente, comimos pasta y ensalada para la cena y terminamos nuestro día con una reflexion de nuestro día y las expectativas para el viaje.
On our first day, we left the airport and when straight to Old San Juan. Alvin, our tour guide, walked us through to a Puerto Rican restaurant where we ate various of meals such and tostones, rice and beans, etc. We learned about the history of how Puerto Rico was founded and roamed the streets. We ended in El Moro where we learned about the battles that occurred with the English in the 16th Century. Afterwards, we went souvenir shopping and went back to the vans where we drove to The Big Yellow House. Lastly, we had pasta and salad for dinner and ended our day with a reflection of our day and expectations for the trip.

May 26-27, 2019
On Sunday, we went to the community and we met the family of Angel and Maria that we are going to help build the roof of their house. Jeff translated what William, the construction manger, said. We started work with rebar to create the structure of the ceiling. Jeff and Angel were carpenters. We brought the rebar up to the roof so we can start the structure of the roof. We tied the rebar to each other in other to make it stable. Then, we had lunch that Maria cooked, rice, beans, and chicken wings. After we ate, we danced to music and got to know the family better. For the rest of the day we went to beach. We struggled going into and out of the ocean due to the slippery rocks. We then went back to the Big Yellow House to have dinner and watch a documentary.
On Monday, we went to the community to create the cement for the roof. We had an assembly line to create the cement, put the cement on the roof and then pour the cement onto the sections created by the rebar. We ate the food Maria made again, beans, rice and chicken mixed with vegetables. But we couldn’t complete all the work due to it starting to pour down rain. We continued to listen to music and have fun with the family. We eventually went back to the Big Yellow House, we played Uno. We then went to the beach close to the House, so we walked there. Celeste taught Jessica, Micayla, and Ebo how to float in the water. Next, we had barbecue and salsa classes. At last, we did our reflections, eat ice cream bars and played Uno and also danced.
El domingo, fuimos a la comunidad y nos reunimos con la familia de Ángel y María, a quienes ayudaremos a construir el techo de su casa. Jeff tradujo lo que dijo William, el encargado de la construcción. Comenzamos a trabajar con barras de refuerzo para crear la estructura del techo. Jeff y Angel eran carpinteros. Llevamos la barra de refuerzo hasta el techo para que podamos comenzar la estructura del techo. Atamos la barra de refuerzo entre sí para hacerla estable. Luego, comimos el almuerzo de María, arroz, frijoles y alitas de pollo. Después de comer, bailamos música y conocimos mejor a la familia. Por el resto del día nos fuimos a la playa. Luchamos por entrar y salir del océano debido a las rocas resbaladizas. Luego volvimos a la Big Yellow House a para cenar y ver un documental.
El lunes, fuimos a la comunidad para crear el cemento para el techo. Teníamos una línea de ensamblaje para crear el cemento, colocar el cemento en el techo y luego verter el cemento en las secciones creadas por la armadura. Comimos nuevamente la comida que hizo María, frijoles, arroz y pollo mezclados con vegetales. Pero no pudimos completar todo el trabajo debido a que comenzaba a llover. Continuamos escuchando música y divirtiéndonos con la familia. Finalmente volvimos a la Big Yellow House, jugamos Uno. Luego fuimos a la playa cerca de la casa, así que caminamos allí. Celeste enseñó a Jessica, Micayla y Ebo a flotar en el agua. A continuación, tuvimos clases de barbacoa y salsa. Por fin, hicimos nuestras reflexiones, comimos barras de helado y tocamos Uno y también bailamos.
