Meet our 2017 Ambassadors: Kayla is going to Spain!

Kayla has since lived most of her life in South Florida. Kayla attends Florida Atlantic University High School, a highly competitive high school, located on the Florida Atlantic University campus, which is unlike any other high school in the nation. In freshman year of FAU High School, students take extremely rigorous classes with a collegiate-level curriculum. From sophomore year to senior year, students take all classes at Florida Atlantic University, and are thus full-time college students at the age of 15. Kayla is currently working to earn her bachelors degree in Psychology, and hopes to work for the FBI as a psychologist.

On Kayla’s day off from class, she volunteers in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach, FL, where she completes extremely important work that ensures the safety and well-being of the premature or extremely unwell babies who require intensive care. On a daily basis, Kayla is responsible for faxing prescriptions, ensuring that the babies have formula and warm blankets, answering doctor’s phone calls, granting visitors access to visit patients, discharging patients, and taking tests conducted by the nurses and doctors to the laboratory to be tested and recorded. When not in class or volunteering, Kayla loves athletics. She has played soccer for over five years and currently plays for her high school varsity team. Kayla also earned her black belt in Tang Soo Do (a Korean variation of karate).

This trip to Spain as a Global Works Ambassador will allow her to gain experience with interacting with people from other cultures. Kayla will also be able to apply her Spanish speaking skills acquired from the two college Spanish courses that she has completed. She would love to document her Global Works experience as a Global Works Ambassador in Spain with others through photography and videography of her trip. In this way, she can connect with others interested in international service, as well as enrich her own experience and further her involvement with the Global Works program.
